The collaboration with WISeKey launched in 2009, has made Hublot a leader in the field of identification and authenticity protection. All Hublot watches are protected by WISeAuthentic®, the authenticity certification system based on WISeKey technology, and the 69 Hublot boutiques and 750 points of sale across the world are equipped with the system for activating and reading this new digital certificate. It also led to the creation of “Hublotista”, an exclusive club which connect together all the Hublot watches owners worldwide.
The Hublotista chip card and reader that act as the watch’s passport are provided in every watch box. The first authentication operation is carried out by Hublot when the Hublotista chip card is embossed and placed with its reader in the box housing the watch. In the boutique, when the customer has selected a model, the seller is identified by the system as one of the brand’s approved retailer, using their own card which connects directly to the brand’s headquarters in Switzerland. The retailer then connects the “Hublotista” card which comes with the watch, activating the international warranty in front of the customer. Using the device provided during purchase (reader and card), the owner of a Hublot watch can check its authenticity and serial number online, consult the instructions and also register at the same time on “Hublostista.com”, the club exclusively reserved for owners of Hublot watches.
Last week Jean-Claude Biver spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Biver, who is the Chairman of Hublot and was recently named Head of the Watches Division of the LVMH Group, took the occasion of his presence in Davos to announce the extension of the collaboration between WISeKey and Hublot. Biver, on the topic of Hublotista, commented, “We have been able to achieve a very high level of protection for our products thanks to the introduction of this electronic system, and I am delighted to be able to make a contribution to the fight against counterfeiting, which cannot be tolerated by our industry as a whole. Both our points of sale and owners of Hublot watches can use the chip card and reader to immediately check the authenticity of a watch via the internet. This combination provides a secure solution which is impossible to reproduce, at only a minute fraction of the cost incurred by counterfeits. The option of linking this system protecting our customers with a platform dedicated to them was an obvious step. Discussing, learning to better understand them and ourselves… their relationship with the watchmaking world, aesthetics, technology and tradition, their expectations… to be better able to astound them, this club is our very own space, creating a direct and transparent relationship between Hublot and our end customers and, I hope, a link encouraging genuine friendship and trust.”
“Counterfeiting is a major issue for our society. It currently represents five to seven percent of all world trade and is increasing daily,” said Carlos Moreira, CEO of WISeKey. “With the value of luxury brands estimated at several trillion of dollars (USD), brands need a reliable solution to prove authenticity. We are pleased that WISeKey technology is playing an active role in the fight against counterfeiting.”
Carlos Moreira is also a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Illicit Trade & Organized Crime working with world experts, governments and agencies to eradicate illicit trade which involves money, goods or value gained from illegal and generally unethical activities, including human trafficking, environmental crime, intellectual property infringements, smuggling of excisable goods, drug trade and illicit financial flow.
WISeKey announced earlier in December 2013 that the Swiss Patent and Trademark Office issued a patent for this technology now extended for the company’s verification and authentication of objects on the Internet. WISeKey is working with watch manufacturers on this technology since 2007 and has already secured over 500,000 luxury watches from the potential 25 million luxury watches manufacturer in Switzerland.

Security card provides protection against fakes https://www.wisekey.com/press/security-card-provides-protection-against-fakes/ Mon, 21 Jan 2013 10:38:55 +0000 https://wisekey.com/?p=4983 January 21, 2013 – By Simon de Burton

Geneva-based WISekey is best known for providing apparently impenetrable, ultra high-tech information security and identification management systems to protect data in a diverse range of sectors including health, education and defence. Now, the company is beginning to make its mark in the luxury goods world through the use of a system designed to prevent the sale of counterfeit and “grey market” wristwatches. (Klonopin)
Fledgling brand, HYT (the Hydro-Mechanical Horologists) is the latest to adopt the WISeAuthentic system, which will be supplied with each of its revolutionary, liquid-display watches.
WISeAuthentic takes the form of a digital reader and a warranty card containing a unique and non-forgeable digital certificate. The card enables a prospective purchaser or retailer to carry out a cast-iron, high level security check, either online or by using the device in conjunction with the Near Field Communication (NFC) system on a Smart phone.
But, as well as proving that a watch is genuine, WISeAuthentic also contains full details of its sale, ownership and service history.
Ion Schiau, HYT’s vice-president of sales and marketing, admits that the likelihood of one of the brand’s award winning, €40,000 watches being faked is slim (the company uses a bellows system to pump brightly-coloured liquid around the edge of the dial to indicate the hour), but says WISeAuthentic has additional uses.
“HYT’s horology is hybrid and high tech, so to be able to deliver our first watches in December along with another, totally 21st-century system seemed appropriate,” says Mr Schiau.
“Although WISeAuthentic was primarily developed as a tool against fake watches, it is far more wide-ranging than that – as well as containing information about warranty and servicing, it should also prevent any parallel trading as the details of anyone who retails the watch will be stored. Our system will provide access to a private club and tailor made concierge, rental car and hotel booking services,” says Mr Schiau, who first introduced the idea to the watch world back in 2009 while working for Hublot.
At first, the famously conservative watch trade was reluctant to accept the idea. But the so-called Hublotista system is supplied with every Hublot watch sold around the world and is also linked to a private, online owners’ club offering protected discussions, exclusive information, invitations, information exchanges and privileged access to some of the brand’s activities.
Hublotista’s function as an anti-counterfeiting system is also of considerable benefit, as the stellar success of the brand’s Big Bang models has made them popular watches to fake.

WISeKey Leads at the Intersection of Security and the Social Web to Pioneer the Social Media Security Graph https://www.wisekey.com/press/wisekey-leads-at-the-intersection-of-security-and-the-social-web-to-pioneer-the-social-media-security-graph/ Tue, 24 Apr 2012 09:46:53 +0000 https://wisekey.com/?p=5115 Geneva – WISeKey, using its leadership in Digital Identity Management, has developed the Social Media Security Graph methodology for personal information protection. The security company advocates that personal data protection need not be neglected for the enjoyment of social media or surrendered to the network provider. A number of social graphs have emerged controlling slices of social media, but as isolated models each becomes a de-facto resource, compromising individual privacy.
WISeKey’s Social Media Security Graph provides trusted digital identities for individuals to interact in social media and perform confidential transactions on open graphs.
WISeKey’s WISeID is part of the Social Media Security Graph solution. The WISeID app is a set of online tools intended to empower people by providing secure, authenticated, and private digital identification. WISeID special edition apps use private IDs of WISeID to build Social Media Security Graphs in the intersection between people, brands, and advertisements by distributing official content to a certified community of fans.
Many people have a false sense of anonymity, privacy, and data security when interacting online and digital identities are one way to add a layer of security. WISeKey’s development promotes the growth of the social web and individual security towards an objective of personal ownership of online profile details.
WISeKey technology is currently used to enhance the social experience for world renowned football clubs, Hublot, Geneva Time Exhibition, Dimension Films, Troublemaker Studios, among others.

Successful launch for HUBLOTISTA! https://www.wisekey.com/press/successful-launch-for-hublotista/ Mon, 18 Oct 2010 14:01:12 +0000 https://wisekey.com/?p=7226 Reserved exclusively for HUBLOT watch owners, HUBLOTISTA is both a system for protecting and authenticating watches, and also a protected private club: “Hublotista.com” which offers an extensive range of services and privileged access to the brand.
This programme is a first in the watchmaking world.
Hublot was a pioneer when, in 2009, it presented a new electronic identification system for its watches, using the “Hublotista” chip card and reader developed with WISeKey, a company recognised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a “Global Growth Company 2010”. Some months after the platform, designed to combat counterfeiting in the watchmaking industry, went live, the initial report makes very satisfying reading:

  • All Hublot Big Bang, Classic Fusion and King Power watches are protected by WISeAuthentic®, the authenticity certification system based on WISeKeytechnology.
  • The 27 Hublot boutiques and 380 points of sale across the world are now equipped with the system for activating and reading this new digital certificate.

A system providing protection and authentication, the Hublotista chip card and reader – both provided in every watch box – act as a passport for the watch.
The first authentication operation is carried out by Hublot when the Hublotista chip card is embossed and placed with its reader in the box housing the watch.
In the boutique, when the customer has selected a model, the retailer is identified by the system as one of the brand’s approved stockists, using their own card which connects directly to the brand’s headquarters in Switzerland. Using the device provided during purchase (reader and card), the owner of a Hublot watch can check its authenticity and serial number online, consult the instructions and also register at the same time on “Hublostista.com”, the club exclusively reserved for owners of Hublot watches.
Hublotista.com, the private club exclusively reserved for owners of Hublot watches.
Linked to the watch’s international warranty system activated when it is purchased, Hublotista.com is the private club exclusively reserved for owners of Hublot watches, a space where access is strictly reserved for them and which guarantees their anonymity, as they are not required to provide any identification and can choose an avatar in place of their name.
Protected discussions, either private or shared, exclusive information, details of new features, invitations, exchanges of information and advice, privileged access to all aspects of the brand and its activities throughout the world, Hublotista.com is THE club created exclusively for all owners of Hublot watches.
Discussing Hublotista, Jean-Claude Biver explained: “We have been able to achieve a very high level of protection for our products thanks to the introduction of this electronic system, and I am delighted to be able to make a contribution to the fight against counterfeiting, which cannot be tolerated by our industry as a whole. Both our points of sale and owners of Hublot watches can use the chip card and reader to immediately check the authenticity of a watch via the internet. Discussing, learning to better understand them and ourselves… their relationship with the watchmaking world, aesthetics, technology and tradition, their expectations… to be better able to astound them, this club is our very own space, creating a direct and transparent relationship between Hublot and our end customers and, I hope, a link encouraging genuine friendship and trust”.

Hublot and WISeKey: using “Swissness” to fight imitations https://www.wisekey.com/press/hublot-and-wisekey-using-swissness-to-fight-imitations/ Wed, 25 Mar 2009 14:23:47 +0000 https://wisekey.com/?p=7232 Today, on the occasion of the opening of the Basel Watch and Jewellery Show, Hublot and Wisekey announced a world “first” in the fight against imitations. The watchmaker has joined forces with the company “World Internet Security” with a view to taking radical steps to identify its watches electronically.

From now on, Hublot watches will be protected by a SmartCard, proving their identity and origin. This innovative solution, which was presented today by the watchmaking brand and WiseKey, represents a decisive step in the fight against the counterfeit trade.
The idea consists of creating an electronic guarantee certificate, which not only contains the watch identity code, but also enables privileged access to a reserved space on the Hublot web site. Both Hublot sales outlets and clients will be able to use the SmartCard to instantly check via the Internet if the watch is genuine.
It’s the first time that this technology has been used as a protection against counterfeiting. “There is a patent pending on this method,” explained Carlos Moreira, CEO of WiseKey. “It is based on digital identification protected by a cryptographic SmartCard associated with a Hublot watch. We supply a secured platform which the buyer can access via the watchmaker’s website, and within an area reserved for watch identification. If the information contained in the card is not valid, access to this area is simply denied.”
“Hublot is the first company in the world of luxury and watchmaking to attain this level of protection for its products, by combining state-of-the-art electronic technology and traditional watchmaking know-how. I am proud to be the pioneer in this domain, as even though imitation is flattering (he said laughing), manufacture of counterfeit watches is an inacceptable plague for the whole of the watchmaking industry, and we must use every means possible to fight it”, added Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot CEO.
Thus, as from Autumn 2009, purchasers of Hublot watches will find the electronic card included in their watch’s case. In addition to the information enabling traceability of the watch, they will, thanks to this card, be able to connect to the Hublot website and get access to a privileged space reserved for them, while remaining anonymous.
