2021 Forecast: Back to the Future

2021 Forecast: Back to the Future

The ball drops.
Glasses clink.
Lips kiss.
January 1st rings in the new year.
There is hope of a fresh start.

In 2021 there is a purging of the past. Breaking structures, disrupting routines, things coming unhinged … and for some… the drama of wanting it to be different, “the way it was.” We are responsible for bringing the wisdom from our elders forward with new strategies and technologies this year. 2021 is a radically unique moment in astrology, numerology, and the yogic timeline. It’s true, guys: life doesn’t “get better,” but we can. Let me show you what shakedowns to expect in order to maximize this incredible year ahead.

Numerology Themes of 2021

Life in the Fast Lane

2021 is a 5-Universal Year in numerology. The 5-energy is exciting, dynamic, and full of significant changes all year long. We will be given opportunities to gamble on ourselves. This year is about taking calculated risks while embracing life in the fast lane.

Finding Clarity through Chaos

The 5-energy also symbolizes facing the conflicts of life with eyes wide open, hearts forward. We will feel pulled in many directions … this year it’s time to break tradition and try new strategies. The conflicts, confusion, and chaos you see are merely distractions that work to help you refine and focus your goals and desires.

Let Freedom Ring

The 5 represents our need to be free—and to live life by our own design—on our own terms. Some people will express this by traveling more, moving, or changing careers. Others will change the terms of their relationships, or date outside of their normal type . Get curious about the adventures that await you in 2021!

Physical and Spiritual Fitness

The 5-Universal Year is a remarkable time to make positive, lasting shifts with our health. Is it time to stop drinking, stop smoking, stop eating meat/dairy/gluten/grains? If you’re interested in a new experience and reaching your full vitality, the 5 gives you the right amount of spark and desire to experience your life differently, both physically and spiritually.

What to Guard Against

It would be a shame to get to the end of the year and wonder what you did with all that time, wouldn’t it? The 5-energy can create scattered energy, where you waste precious time and flit away the hours, getting nothing accomplished. While the 5 supports new ideas, there is not much grounding to get things done at a practical level. We will have to do any centering or stabilizing on our own to see projects through to completion.

Astrology Themes of 2021

The astrological weather mimics the wide-open potential of the numerology, as the planetary advisors and their unique missions are shifting once again.

“Just hold on loosely
But don’t let go
If you cling too tightly
You’re gonna lose control
Your baby needs someone to believe in
And a whole lot of space to breathe in.”
– lyrics from 38 Special

Pluto stays in Capricorn: Power Surges

Unhinged energy needs an outlet. This is a year of continued purging and minimalism, where less is more. We feel energized by working out, clearing the clutter of our junk drawers, and freeing the skeletons from the closets of our past. This can be an upsetting year if you’re hanging on to outdated methods, beliefs, or behaviors, even if you think it’s the right thing to do.

Remember what Anne Lamott said, that “help is just the sunny side of control.” Turning whatever feels unmanageable and out of control over to your Higher Power is a useful tool when working with Plutonic energy this year.

Pluto pushes for groundbreaking change, and a disruption of old structures (politically, emotionally, physically). The natural cycle reminds us that death occurs before new life begins. And while we prepare for the dying off of old ways, we would be wise to bring some of the “old” wisdom forward with us into this new territory where things are constantly changing.

The Pluto return for the United States gets a little louder (February 2019 to January 2025) and citizens feel a need to make reparations for injustices. The Innocence Project, the Native American Rights Fund, and organizations that prioritize restoring fairness will gain prominence.

Sidebar: Pluto moves into Aquarius in 2025, marking the end of the Kali Yuga in the yogic timeline.

Neptune in Pisces: Your Muse Awaits

Neptune represents altered states where things dissolve. Neptune inspires creativity, entertainment, prophets, and psychic development, while in the sign of Pisces from 2012 to 2025. Continue to work with this energy by tapping into your muse, taking time out for a spiritual quest, and regularly clearing your energy. Guard against escapist and addictive tendencies, and be careful about aligning with false gurus and losing yourself.

Uranus in Taurus: Food & Finance

Uranus moved into Taurus in 2019 where he will stay for roughly seven years, giving unexpected energy to money, food, and natural resources. Keep a finger on the pulse of the food revolution by practicing new ways of gardening, new technologies in the food industry, and cruelty-free diets. Look for changes to policies in the way we regulate supplements or new ways to label organics. With Taurus, the revolution is slow. So we may see new chapters of the Slow Food Movement, too.

It’s wise to be conservative with your money this year. Many astrologers continue to forecast economic recesses, higher rates of unemployment, and crashes within financial conditions with this placement. How individuals, communities, states, and countries will navigate these extremes remains to be seen. Taurus resists, while Uranus moves swiftly. This disturbance in the force may be uncomfortable, which can be a signal that it’s time to move forward into the unknown instead of the “same-ol’ same-ol’.”

Jupiter and Saturn move into Aquarius: The Future is Now

Jupiter and Saturn meet at zero degrees of Aquarius on Solstice (December 21, 2020). This meeting of the planetary minds happens every twenty years (think back to 2000, 1980, 1960, etc.). And for the last two hundred years, this meeting has occurred in Earth signs. So the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Aquarius starts a new 200-year cycle in Air signs, marking a major changing of the guards. The old cosmic King has retired, and we aren’t sure what this new King will do with his power, intelligence, and laws.

Radical ideas and changes are taking place as we enter this cycle with Jupiter and Saturn. This movement from Earth to Air symbolizes a rocket launch. Think audible instead of physical books. Think internet classes instead of going to school in-person. Think about meeting for court … on zoom? Think artificial intelligence, robots, and spacecraft.

We identify with different archetypes, our alliances are shifting, and there are reversals of attitudes within groups. The conservatives become more liberal, the liberals become more conservative.  Aquarius represents the voice of the collective consciousness —what we all want. My suggestion is to look for similarities, not differences. Remember what unites us as people, and find something in common with the other person/team to open doors and keep communication flowing. If you’re feeling stuck or defensive, consider saying “You might be right” to pour water on the fire.

Aquarius governs innovation. Jupiter’s influence here will bring technological advances, while Saturn’s influence will create new regulations within the internet.

Note that Saturn, the planet that represents constriction, first entered Aquarius, the sign of widespread panic and airborne disease in March of 2020 when Covid became a reality. Trends of isolation and quarantine are likely to continue (Saturn), while also seeing huge outbreaks in communities that have cabin fever (Jupiter). Sorry. This cycle continues to bring dramatic changes to the way we communicate and socialize.

Sidebars:

  • Mercury retrogrades in the Air signs in 2021, helping us consider the rules of engagement and how we come together.
  • Jupiter dances briefly in Pisces (May-July), opening our hearts to compassion, and finding a service-oriented approach to life.

The Moon’s Nodes: Alice in Wonderland

The Nodes of the Moon act as Spiritual Guides for us with the North Node in Gemini and South Node in Sagittarius through the end of the summer. Looking back, 1983 was the last time the South Node passed through Sagittarius. This is when we saw the first woman in space. Themes around time travel, space, and (really!) foreign affairs will excite and inspire us. We are on a quest to understand and communicate the truth. There’s an Alice-in-Wonderland quality afoot— let your studies and travels be a light-hearted adventure, learn a foreign language, step out of time and space with flotation therapy.

Chiron in Aries: Self-Help

Remember this: Life is happening for you, not to you. New models of healing, self-help, and coming into personal power. Health takes a DIY approach from 2018-2027 while Chiron remains in Aries. If you’re suffering this year, ask yourself: What am I willing to remain in pain about? Why? What am I willing to put an end to in order to transcend?

Aries holds the Mars vibrations of energy, drive, and stamina. Be ready to tackle problems with a head-first approach during this eight-year period. Jump “all in.” Limitation and stagnation are crazy-makers … find a way to move energy and prana with healthy physical outlets— arts, yoga, tai chi, etc.

Who am I? Why am I here? The search for identity is a big theme during this period. Look for mentors that can help you reach independence. Chiron represents the wounded healer, but you can think of the energy like your big sister in sorority, or your sponsor in AA—they have been through the ringer and are there to help you through your own rites of passage. Whatever your unique pain/healing cycle has been like, this is also the unique medicine you can offer to someone else on the same path. This is the gift of the awareness of Chiron.

Ask yourself the bigger questions, knowing that the answer will unfold slowly over time. You don’t have to know it all right now. Look for synchronicities, messages in dreams, and read inspirational books—these are all ways to ignite the process of determining your purpose. Be willing to move forward by doing the next right thing (not the next thing right). Taking full responsibility for exactly where you are is the most empowering way to walk through this cycle. The Biggest Transit of 2021: The Saturn/Uranus Squares
“Change, before you have to.” – Jack Welch

The Saturn/Uranus squares are part of a larger cycle running from 1988 to 2032. Three exact hits occur February 17, June 15 and December 24, 2021. They come awfully close October 1–12th as well. [Side note: The Saturn/Uranus square of 1975-77 coincided with the swine flu epidemic and the Saturn/Uranus opposition of 2008-10 coincided with the H1N1 pandemic.]

Things worked—until they didn’t. Saturn forces, Uranus explodes. And because they are both in fixed signs (Aquarius and Taurus), we will see some kind of ultimatum. This period has been described as a controlled demolition of freedom.

But control and order are illusions. Loss of the idea that we are in control can be both disturbing and freeing. When things become unmanageable, those are the moments we fall to our knees and surrender to Spirit. What if this systematic deconstruction of freedom and power gives us space to evolve into a better version of ourselves we never thought possible? An uncomfortable door is opening to a new level of trust in the unseen, all-knowing, all-loving God.

As the Merlin Astrologer, Rick Levine puts it: “We go further into denial or we give our old shit up.” We will be facing the music at the global level, reaping what we have sown.

The prophecy of the Cree Indians reminds us “When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money.”
