May 2020 Lunations Forecast

Welcome to the May lunations forecast!

The May forecast and podcast are also available if you want the full scoop.

This month we have a Full Moon in Scorpio, followed by a New Moon in Gemini. I’ve included a sample ceremony below as well as a ritual Cacao recipe. When the Full Moon falls in the Water sign of Scorpio, like it does this month, things can feel intense. Like the hermit or priestess card in the tarot, it is normal to want to have personal time right now. This is the perfect Moon to wrap up an old research project, to set an intention around self-development, or to study the Venus retrograde pattern (we have an article, podcast, and kit for you on that).

But some of us are overcoming something deep and need to bury ourselves in the cocoon. That’s understandable. Scorpio energy takes us to the darkest depths of human emotion before turning it over to the light. This is the Moon of the alchemist, the sensualist, and the power player. It’s time to bang the drum of self-transcendence and look at the world with intuitive eyes.

Scorpio is the eighth sign in the zodiac and is represented by the Scorpion. It is a Water sign, ruled by Mars and Pluto.

Scorpio Full Moon Intention
I crave healthy attitudes, behaviors, and experiences, and easily choose my actions with integrity and transparency.

Scorpio Full Moon Healing Invocation
I access my intuitive wisdom and share it compassionately with those around me.

Word to the Wise
When the Moon is in Scorpio, it’s possible you (or those around you) are feeling intense emotions and have increased intuition. Your spidey-senses are in full swing. You may notice people are feeling passionate, or are more easily triggered. Depending on your personal constituency and situation, you may enjoy the emotional depth provided under a Water-Moon. But if things are feeling too heavy, you can incorporate elements from the opposite sign throughout the day to balance things out. The opposite sign of Scorpio is Taurus. Consider drumming, walking on the ground outside with bare feet, or visualizing roots growing through your feet to the center of the Earth in meditation. Combining Water and Earth elements assists you in anchoring your intentions with practical action to bring about desired outcomes.

GEMINI NEW MOON CEREMONY
Connection through Communication

We use cacao and divination to activate our throat chakras under the Gemini New Moon. This ceremony is ideal for strengthening clear communication and gaining discernment. For more, check out our Book of Ceremonies!

Step One: Selecting Tools
Set up a New Moon wishing area in a quiet space without distractions. Ideally you can do this outdoors, but a private space inside works too. Refer to the corresponding elements in the section above to select your tools. We suggest incorporating at least one tool per element (Fire, Earth, Air, Water), as well as a journal to write your intentions and responses to the journal prompts. You’ll also need a tarot or oracle deck as well as some cacao tea. Both can be ordered online.

Step Two: Clear the Energy
Start by taking a cleansing breath of one of your essential oils, then exhale and pause. Count backwards: 3, 2, 1. Breathe in and relax. Dab a few drops of the essential oil on the back of your neck, throat, behind your ears, and along your spine for extra grounding and clarity (be careful, some essential oils can sting).

Say: I am rooted. I am grounded. My energy field is safe, sustainable, and sacred.

Step Three: Blend in
Cacao teas are made with cacao nibs that are brewed and infused like loose leaf tea. Brew some cacao tea, or for a treat, you can also create a blend of cacao powder and milk (coconut or almond). Our ritual cacao drink recipe is below.

Drink the tea and begin to shuffle a tarot deck or oracle deck that you love. The deck can be new to you, or one you have used for several years. Ask for expanded consciousness and for insight to flow naturally while shuffling.

Step Four: Messages from the Universe
Knock on the deck to clear it, then shuffle the cards a few more times. Ask yourself “what do I need to know right now, during this New Moon?” Pull one card (or more if you need further clarification). Read the meaning of the card you pulled and see how it resonates with your current situation. Journal any insights or aha moments you receive from the magical tarot messages.

Step Five: Writing Wishes
Pull inspiration and insights from your card meditation and the properties of Gemini (as listed above in the sample wishes, the areas Gemini governs + the High Vibe Aspects of Gemini) to write up to ten intentions in your journal. This is also an ideal time to write the New Moon Intention and the Healing Invocation. The most potent time for wish-making is within eight hours of the New Moon.

Step Six: Into the Darkness
In the evening, once you have spent time journaling about your personal reading and written your wishes, place your journal, deck of cards, crystals, and candle(s) or herb bundle under the darkness of the Gemini New Moon. If the weather is inclement, you can place your sacred ceremony items next to a window or similar space shielded from the elements. Leave them to germinate in the darkness for three days and nights. Remember that your ceremony is still open and active during this time.

After the three days, gather your ceremony items. Brew another cup of cacao tea. Ask once more for further intelligence and guidance. Knock once on the deck to clear it, then shuffle the deck several times.

Say: Please send me further clarity, instruction, and divine intelligence to propel me forward in the darkness of the New Moon.

Step Six: Shuffle the Deck
Using a tarot or oracle deck, pull a simple three card spread.
– The first card will represent where you are today.
– The second card represents what may be blocking or limiting you.
– The third card represents a possible solution or tool to accomplish your New Moon wishes.

Write about your understanding of the cards you pulled, then set some additional intentions based on what you discover. Trust the magic!

Step Seven: Closing Sacred Space
It is important to seal the energy after any ceremony.

Ancient Powers of Cacao*
Cacao is a tree that bears cacao seeds which can be roasted and ground to form cocoa and other products. Cacao was considered in many ancient cultures in Central and South America as the food of the gods. In Mayan lore, cacao was discovered inside a mythical mountain, a gift to the Mayan people by the Sun God (Hunahpú)). Cacao became one of the most sacred foods of the Maya. Cacao has been used in ceremonies to drink, eat, or paint on sacrifices. The beans were used as a form of currency because of their value. It was also a drink of the elite and was used in burial ceremonies for the journey of the dead into the underworld. Cacao has many medicinal purposes—specifically for the bowel or digestive system and kidneys. Cacao in ceremony is used to unlock enlightened visions and astral or out-of-body travel.

*Note the gift of cacao from the “Sun” god and its relation to the Solar Plexus Chakra that governs the digestive system.

Ritual Cacao Drink Recipe

Add this to any ceremony, or before meditation for some extra magick.

1. Mix cacao paste/powder with water.
2. Add optional spices (cinnamon, mint, or chili pepper).
3. Shake the mixture or blend it until it creates a foam on the top layer.
4. Add optional sweeteners (honey or agave).
