18 Jun Happy Summer Solstice & a Cancer New Moon!
Tuesday June 20th: Summer solstice marks the beginning of summer and is the longest day of the year. We get the most daylight this day because the northern hemisphere of the Earth is tilted the most it can be tilted towards the Sun. Sol is the Latin word for Sun and Sistere is Latin for ‘to stand still’. So the word Solstice refers to how the Sun looks like it comes to a standstill on this day. Solstice lore lovers are attracted to celebrate this day at Stonehenge and at the Avebury stone circle, but you can celebrate the beginning of Summer right in your own backyard. Ideas:
- Study up on sungazing
- Soak up the sun
- Harvest from your garden
- Light a yellow candle
- Have a bonfire
- Host a barbecue
- Recharge your magical tools and crystals
- Tap in to some beach
Friday June 23rd: The New Moon in Cancer. If you notice people ‘in a mood’ today, you can cut them some slack knowing that the energy will soon pass. Fill your Friday night with water magic by taking a healing bubble bath, curling up with a fun beach read, and making a homemade meal to nourish and nurture.
New Moon wishes for the Cancer Moon can include things like:
- Home life
- Feelings (including empathy, overcoming moodiness, and being in touch with your feelings)
- Trust issues
In health: Cancer rules the breasts, stomach and chest area. If you’re having any issues in these areas, the New Moon in Cancer is a good time to set forth healing intentions and prayers to attract radiant health, the energy to take action, or the path to the right healing work for your breasts and stomach. We encourage you to stay on top of your monthly breast exams this month and always.
Crystals to work with:
- Black Onyx
- Rose Quartz
Oils, Herbs, and Teas: Try incorporating German Chamomile essential oil to any of your New Moon rituals, or put it in your bath water. Peppermint and spearmint are good choices to add to your tea today, and explore what you can do with parsley and verbena when cooking.
Meditation: Check out this 10-minute meditation on Self-Care for Mother’s we found at Yoga Journal. I think it’s good for all kinds of moms. 🙂
